Staff Test Engineer
Role Summary
The Staff Test Engineer designs and delivers automated test (ATE) solutions from development through production ramp to support new product introductions, quality, and yield improvement.
Works within the test development team and collaborates with Product, Design, Quality, Validation, and Operations to release reliable ATE solutions at scale.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff level). The role expects a seasoned engineer with approximately 5+ years of relevant ATE/test development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include ownership of test program development, qualification, and production support.
- Develop test programs to support NPI, quality, and capability initiatives.
- Support qualification, characterization, and correlation of products.
- Implement baseline software and hardware solutions to scale team capabilities.
- Perform quality planning, and conduct hardware and software reviews for the test group.
- Coordinate with product engineering and operations to enable production ramp and release.
- Support production yield analysis and customer return investigations.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and external technical teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 5+ years working with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and in ATE test development for analog, digital, and mixed-signal devices.
- Hands-on experience with ATE platforms such as COHU Diamondx, SPEA DOT800, Advantest V93K, ETS364.
- Proficient programming experience (C++, BASIC, Perl, Python) and developing reusable code templates/libraries.
- Experience using lab instruments (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers) for chip/circuit testing and data collection.
- Proficiency with ATE analog/digital instruments, PCB layout parasitic reduction, and strong debug/troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on debugging of analog product communication protocols and memory interfaces.
- Experience in test hardware and test program development for production environments.
- Willingness to travel approximately 0β10%.
