Job Title

Staff, Technical Standards – RISC-V SOC

Role Summary

Senior technical standards engineer in the Technical Standards Engineering group focused on RISC‑V system-on-chip (SoC) topics. The role represents the company in standards forums, defines and promotes technical specifications, and coordinates internal and external stakeholders to drive adoption and protect IP.

This is a remote role available in Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan; the position requires collaboration with product, engineering, and legal teams and periodic international travel for standards forums.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. Typical background: multiple years of ASIC/processor design or verification and multi-year participation in standards bodies; candidate profiles commonly include 6+ years of relevant technical experience and 3+ years working with standards organizations.

Responsibilities

Work with internal teams and external partners to develop, influence, and implement semiconductor standards, with emphasis on RISC‑V SoC topics.

  • Represent the company as a delegate in standards organizations and forums; build consensus and lead specification development.
  • Identify emerging standards and strategic priorities; help formulate and execute company strategy for semiconductor standards.
  • Author and review technical specifications, white papers, and standards documents; translate technical designs into standard requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and legal teams to protect IP and coordinate patent filings related to standards work.
  • Support compliance, modeling, verification, and certification activities for processor cores and SoC IP.
  • Travel internationally several times per year for standards meetings and collaboration.

Requirements

Concise list of required and preferred technical experience and skills. Education degree details are summarized in the Education Requirements section below.

  • Must-have: Deep expertise in RISC‑V ISA, processor architecture, microarchitecture, and memory architecture; demonstrated experience developing technical specifications and driving consensus in standards forums.
  • Must-have: Significant ASIC/SoC design, implementation, verification, validation, or related hands-on experience (senior-level, typically multiple years).
  • Must-have: 3+ years working with standards bodies or equivalent experience participating in industry forums; strong networking and influencing skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with debug and trace, RAS (reliability/availability/serviceability), SOC IP (bus, cache coherency, interrupts), system firmware and kernel interactions.
  • Nice-to-have: Memory design, memory modeling, or memory test experience; familiarity with EDA tools and semiconductor development flow (manufacturing, silicon qualification).
  • Nice-to-have: Understanding of international semiconductor landscapes, open-source licensing models, and experience interacting with senior leadership and project financials.

Education Requirements

Degree requirements appear in multiple formats in the source: a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering is listed under leveling guidance; a Doctorate (PhD) in those fields is preferred. The posting also lists alternative minimums where a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field plus 4+ years of experience, OR a Master’s plus 3+ years, OR a PhD plus 2+ years are acceptable. Fields mentioned: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems. Equivalent practical/related work experience is acceptable per the alternative qualification language.
