Role Summary

Join AMD's Product Development Group to develop manufacturing test strategies, diagnostic solutions, and automation infrastructure for data center GPU products used in AI, ML, and HPC. You will work at AMD's manufacturing site in Austin, collaborating with hardware, software, architecture, design, product engineering, and manufacturing teams to support product introduction, ramp, and high-volume production.

This role is onsite and not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system bring-up, test development, and cross-functional technical leadership focused on manufacturing and validation.

  • Develop manufacturing test strategies, fixtures, equipment specs, diagnostic software, and supporting infrastructure for new products and features.
  • Define scalable board- and system-level hardware test methodologies and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead system bring-up and debug of hardware, firmware, software, and manufacturing issues during product build phases.
  • Develop and support automated diagnostic generation, test content, and validation infrastructure using Python and other scripting languages.
  • Review early product designs and provide Design for Testability (DFT) recommendations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve test coverage, yield, quality, production efficiency, and reliability.
  • Identify and lead product and process improvement initiatives to reduce cost and resolve quality issues.
  • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing test technologies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Support manufacturing partners during new product introduction, production ramp, and sustaining phases.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and influence technical direction across organizations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful execution of the role; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with post-silicon system integration, system bring-up, debug of hardware/firmware/software, and manufacturing test development.
  • Must-have: Experience with system-level software and test environments (BIOS/IFWI, firmware, boot processes, POST diagnostics, Machine Check Architecture).
  • Must-have: Strong knowledge of system hardware (motherboards, SMCs, BMCs, voltage regulators, FPGAs) and platform-level debug (memory, PCIe, thermal and power management).
  • Must-have: Experience developing manufacturing tests and diagnostics using Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and familiarity with manufacturing/reliability test methodologies (burn-in, HVQK, DPPM, RMA).
  • Must-have: Proficiency with Python and shell scripting (Bash); experience with Linux/Unix environments and revision control (Git, SVN, etc.).
  • Nice-to-have: Programming experience in C, C++, C#, or Java; familiarity with Perl or Ruby.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with IPMI, PCIe, BMCs, ATE tooling, and Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Must-have: Strong analytical and communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required; master’s degree is preferred.
