Staff Systems Design Engineer
Analog DevicesJob Title
Staff Systems Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development of next-generation mixed-signal IC products from concept through production silicon, working across analog, digital, firmware, and system architecture. Provide technical leadership, make architectural decisions, and coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready chips.
Adoption of AI-assisted design methodologies (agentic AI, LLM-driven workflows) is required; candidates unwilling to use these tools are not a fit.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 8+ years of IC design experience (analog, digital, or mixed-signal).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, system-level integration, and delivery of silicon-ready designs.
- Drive architecture and design decisions across analog, digital, and mixed-signal domains.
- Deliver designs from concept through layout, tape-out, and production silicon validation.
- Guide IC layout trade-offs to meet performance, matching, and parasitic constraints.
- Perform silicon bring-up, lab debug, and validation using scopes, analyzers, and evaluation boards.
- Integrate firmware and verification flows to support system-level testing.
- Adopt and champion AI/ML-assisted design and verification workflows to accelerate development.
- Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to meet requirements and timelines.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to engineering teams; support process migration and foundry transitions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Must-have: Demonstrated track record of IC tape-outs and silicon validation; strong cross-disciplinary experience (analog circuits, digital RTL/synthesis, mixed-signal integration, system architecture).
- Must-have: Proficiency with industry EDA tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/ADE, digital synthesis, place-and-route).
- Must-have: Deep understanding of CMOS process technology (from mature nodes through advanced nodes), including electromigration, aging, and technology limits.
- Must-have: Strong IC layout knowledge (parasitics, matching, performance optimization) and the ability to guide layout teams.
- Must-have: Hands-on silicon bring-up and lab debug experience.
- Must-have: Willingness to adopt AI-assisted design methodologies (agentic AI, LLM-assisted workflows).
- Preferred: Experience applying AI/ML tools to IC design workflows (LLM-assisted code generation, automated verification, design exploration).
- Preferred: Firmware/embedded development (C/C++, Python, microcontroller programming); SystemVerilog and UVM verification experience.
- Preferred: Experience with power management, sensor interfaces, data converters, and multiple foundry process nodes.
- Other: Willingness to travel approximately 10% and work standard day-shift hours.
Education Requirements
M.S. (MSEE) or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering explicitly listed. The posting pairs the degree expectation with 8+ years of IC design experience.
