Staff System Architect

Role Summary

The Staff System Architect will define and influence system-level architecture for Arm's future products, working across hardware, software and ecosystem partners. The role sits in the Systems Architecture and Technology Group and focuses on technology directions over a 3–5 year horizon, including AI, security, performance and software ecosystems.

Responsibilities

Work across teams and with external partners to shape and deliver system architecture and technology direction.

  • Lead system-level architecture exploration and definition across hardware and software domains.
  • Collaborate with technology groups, product teams and industry consortia to develop and deploy new technologies.
  • Analyze trends (e.g., AI, ML, accelerators) and translate them into architecture requirements and proposals.
  • Perform architecture performance analysis and optimisation guidance.
  • Communicate architecture decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

Core technical skills and communication ability required.

  • Good understanding of computer architecture concepts and trends (CPU, GPU or other hardware acceleration).
  • Strong programming and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Demonstrable drive, diligence and passion for hardware and software co-design.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of Arm architecture fundamentals.
  • Experience with vector processing and parallel programming.
  • Experience in multimodal machine learning, Transformers or agentic AI.
  • Familiarity with AI & simulation frameworks.
  • Experience in architecture performance analysis and optimisation.

Education Requirements

Postgraduate degree preferred (e.g., Master's) in Computer Science or Electronic/Electrical Engineering; relevant professional experience is considered.
