Job Title

Staff Standard Cell Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver custom standard cells for advanced process nodes as part of the Solutions Engineering Physical IP team. The role focuses on transistor-level cell development and close collaboration with physical design engineers to optimize power, performance and area (PPA) for Arm cores integrated into SoCs.

Team serves infrastructure, client, automotive and IoT market segments and delivers standard-cell IP used across multiple product lines.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff). Years of experience not specified in the posting.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include design, optimization, and handoff of standard cells in advanced process technologies.

  • Develop custom standard cells targeting advanced nodes (sub-3nm mentioned in the posting).
  • Perform transistor-level circuit design and layout for standard-cell libraries.
  • Collaborate with physical design teams to co-optimize circuit/topology and layout for improved PPA.
  • Characterize cells for timing, power, and signal integrity; prepare Liberty/LEF/GDS deliverables.
  • Drive iterations to meet design rules, LVS/DRC, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Contribute to library integration and support SoC-level tapeout and verification activities.

Requirements

Concise list of expected skills and domain experience. Education items are summarized separately below.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience in custom standard-cell design and layout, including transistor-level circuit work and cell characterization.
  • Must-have: Experience working at advanced process nodes (the posting references sub-3nm) and familiarity with PDK constraints.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to collaborate with physical design to optimize timing, power, and area.
  • Must-have: Practical knowledge of EDA flows used for cell design, verification, and characterization.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SoC integration, familiarity with Arm core requirements, or domain experience in infrastructure, automotive, or IoT segments.
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting or automation skills (e.g., Python, Tcl) for flow development and data analysis.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
