Staff SSD Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead SSD system design and verification activities to deliver reliable, high-performance SSD products. Work across firmware, hardware, validation, manufacturing and customer teams to identify and resolve system-level issues.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Longmont, Colorado focused on system characterization, test methodology, and cross-domain debugging.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system-level validation, debugging, and characterization.

  • Debug and resolve complex issues across firmware, hardware, and system domains.
  • Perform performance, power, thermal, and reliability characterization.
  • Develop and apply test and characterization methodologies and validation plans.
  • Ensure products meet defined performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.
  • Support DFMEA and design review activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, followed by preferred qualifications.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of PCIe and NVMe protocols and system behavior.
  • Knowledge of SSD architecture including FTL, NAND management, and controller interaction.
  • Experience using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and hardware debug platforms.
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted tools for debugging, automation, or technical analysis.
  • Preferred: Experience with SSD development, firmware interaction, or system validation.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience with power and thermal characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: Master’s degree in a related technical field. (Degree fields and "or equivalent practical experience" were specified in the posting.)
