Staff Software Engineer / Project Lead

Role Summary

Lead a team of software engineers to design, implement, and deploy real-time signal-processing algorithms and software for defense and intelligence systems. Work spans MATLAB, C/C++, Python, CUDA/OpenCL and embedded/FPGA/SoC targets in Linux/UNIX or Windows environments.

Collaborate with RF, antenna, digital hardware, manufacturing, quality, and supply-chain teams to deliver integrated systems with operational impact.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Required experience varies by degree (see Education Requirements) and generally reflects 7–12+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers; serve as technical lead on defense-related projects.
• Architect, implement, and optimize DSP and RF signal-processing algorithms for real-time deployment.
• Develop and prototype algorithms in MATLAB and production code in C/C++, Python, CUDA/OpenCL, or similar languages.
• Collaborate with FPGA and embedded teams to integrate algorithms into low-SWaP targets, SoCs, or DSPs.
• Apply AI/ML techniques (e.g., deep learning, transformers, reinforcement learning) to signal-processing problems and optimize for real-time performance.
• Perform algorithm verification, performance analysis, and system-level integration and test.
• Follow Agile software-development practices and coordinate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
• Support program documentation, design reviews, and stakeholder interfaces; travel ~10% as required.

Requirements

Must-have:

• US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret clearance.
• Experience as a technical lead on defense or mission-systems projects.
• Experience developing software in an Agile environment.
• Proven experience in DSP or signal-processing algorithm development for real-time systems.
• Experience with MATLAB or equivalent algorithm-development tools and at least one production language such as C/C++ or Python.

Preferred / nice-to-have:

• Embedded software, FPGA, or AI/ML design experience and deploying models in real-time systems.
• GPU development experience (CUDA, OpenCL, Vulkan) for signal-processing workloads.
• FPGA development (VHDL preferred or Verilog), HDL verification tools (Questa, ModelSim), and familiarity with Xilinx/Intel/Microsemi devices.
• Experience with SoC/DSP embedded development and low-SWaP implementations.
• Experience with radar, EW, LPI/LPD waveforms, software-defined radios, image processing, or related mission systems.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering discipline with 12 years' relevant experience, OR MS in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering discipline with 10 years' relevant experience, OR PhD in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering discipline with 7 years' relevant experience.
