Onto InnovationJob Title
Staff software engineer
Role Summary
Lead software architecture, integration, and performance optimization for the R/Theta stage subsystem used in semiconductor inspection and metrology platforms. Act as the technical owner for motion control frameworks, calibration workflows, coordinate transformations, and stage performance across software, controls, systems, and hardware teams.
Experience Level
Senior. Requires 10+ years of experience in motion-control or real-time software systems.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining technical direction, designing control and calibration solutions, and ensuring reliable subsystem integration.
- Serve as technical lead for stage control software, calibration algorithms, and motion optimization.
- Design and integrate the R/Theta stage into the software platform, including motion sequencing, synchronization, and throughput optimization.
- Develop R/Theta-to-Cartesian coordinate transformation algorithms, error mapping, and calibration routines.
- Define and implement automated and production calibration workflows.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and systems engineering to resolve system-level issues and enable integration.
- Drive performance tuning and validation of real-time and multi-threaded software components.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 10+ years developing motion-control or real-time software systems.
- Strong proficiency in C# and object-oriented design; experience with multi-threaded and real-time development.
- Expertise in precision motion control systems and automation.
- Experience developing calibration, compensation, or optimization algorithms for precision motion systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex software–hardware interaction issues at the system level.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on large engineering programs.
- Experience with Git and familiarity with AI-assisted development tools or workflows.
