Staff Software Engineer
Role Summary
Join Arm's CE-SW software group to enable next-generation Arm architecture features within major open-source platforms such as Linux and Android. You will work with processor and system features not yet public and collaborate with architecture and silicon teams to deliver upstream support.
No relocation package is provided. If visa sponsorship is required, Arm will cover sponsorship costs for the employee only; fees for spouse/dependants are the candidate's responsibility.

Responsibilities
You will design, implement and drive integration of new architecture capabilities into OS and userspace components.
- Design, develop and integrate low-level software across Linux, Android, and related userspace components.
- Architect and optimize core OS subsystems focusing on performance, power efficiency, and security.
- Lead investigations across software layers to identify root causes and resolve performance, optimization, and protection issues.
- Lead and participate in code reviews, influence design choices, and contribute to upstream open-source projects.
- Collaborate with architecture and silicon teams to deliver support for new architectural features.
- Mentor and technically guide junior and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and traits for successful candidates.
- Proficiency in C and C++ and strong understanding of OS internals (memory management, scheduling, virtualization).
- Structured problem-solving and experience debugging complex low-level software issues.
- Experience with software profiling, instrumentation, and performance optimization.
- Experience leading technical discussions, code reviews, and collaborating with upstream open-source communities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and spoken English.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with Android internals.
- Experience with at least one CPU architecture, preferably Armv8-A or newer.
- Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages for automation, analysis, and testing.
- Familiarity with Rust or other memory-safe languages.
- Understanding of modern compiler toolchains, particularly LLVM-based technologies.
- Exposure to technical leadership or interest in developing line-management skills.
