Staff SoC Physical Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Staff SoC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical design implementation and signoff activities for system-on-chip (SoC) products, focusing on power and performance optimization. Work across floorplanning, clock tree synthesis, place-and-route, PDN, timing closure, and physical verification.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contribute to design reviews, and drive schedules to tapeout signoff.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting indicates a minimum of three years of related experience in conjunction with the listed degree; the role requires demonstrated leadership in physical design.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include physical implementation, verification, and driving designs to signoff.
- Lead floorplanning, clock tree synthesis, placement and routing, and power-delivery network (PDN) activities.
- Perform timing analysis and drive timing closure for complex SoC designs.
- Execute physical verification checks (LVS, DRC, DFM, design-for-yield) at block and chip levels.
- Optimize designs for power utilization and performance, including high-speed DDR and graphics interfaces.
- Provide schedules, coordinate cross-functional engineering efforts, and support tapeout signoff.
- Participate in design reviews and implement development plans.
Requirements
Required technical skills and demonstrable experience. Educational requirements are listed below.
- Experience with SoC physical design flows and commercial EDA tools for P&R and timing analysis.
- Experience with PDN design, clock tree synthesis, and power-performance trade-off analysis.
- Familiarity with physical verification methodologies and tools for LVS, DRC, and manufacturing/yield checks.
- Scripting and automation skills (for example, Python, Tcl, or Perl) to support flow automation and analysis.
- Proven ability to lead technical workstreams, communicate effectively across teams, and meet project schedules.
Education Requirements
Master's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The posting specifies this degree and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience; equivalent practical experience may be considered where applicable.
