Staff / Senior Staff PD Implementation Expert
Role Summary
Responsible for end-to-end backend physical implementation of high-performance SoCs, owning the RTL-to-GDSII flow with an emphasis on power recovery, clock tree optimization, and achieving aggressive PPA targets on advanced nodes.
Works within the physical design team and partners with RTL, DFT, verification and signoff teams to deliver manufacturable, high-quality designs.
Experience Level
Senior-level — approximately 8–14 years of physical design implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and optimize physical implementation from floorplanning to signoff.
- Lead RTL-to-GDSII flow: floorplanning, synthesis, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and signoff activities.
- Optimize PPA using multi-voltage domains, power gating (UPF), datapath optimization, and architecture trade-offs.
- Drive timing closure and static timing analysis across multiple corners and operating modes; resolve setup/hold, CDC, and signal integrity issues.
- Perform physical and formal verification: DRC, LVS, EM/IR analysis, equivalence checking (LEC/Formality), and Calibre checks.
- Automate and improve flows using scripting (Tcl, Python, Perl).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with RTL, DFT, and signoff teams to iterate on designs and achieve convergence.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers to raise team capability and PD convergence quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and hands-on experience.
- 8–14 years of hands-on physical design implementation experience (floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, timing closure).
- Proven track record delivering PPA targets on advanced technology nodes.
- Strong knowledge of static timing analysis, power analysis, and signal integrity.
- Experience with EDA tools such as Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime, Tempus, VCLP, LEC, Calibre, RedHawk.
- Proficient scripting skills in Tcl, Python, or Perl to automate flows and improve methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication in cross-functional teams.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
