Staff / Senior Staff Microarchitect / System Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Staff / Senior Staff Microarchitect / System Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate system-level IP and micro-architecture for SoC infrastructure. Work across performance, design, verification, and silicon teams to prototype, analyze, and commercialize IP that meets performance, power, and area targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Preferred experience: 8+ years in IP architecture or micro-architecture; minimum experience varies by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Contribute to architecture, prototyping, and delivery of system IP and infrastructure solutions.
- Develop IP architecture and micro-architecture; create design prototypes for evaluation.
- Design experiments to measure algorithm efficiency and assess performance, power, and area trade-offs.
- Collaborate with performance modeling and silicon teams to validate ideas and analyze prior products/competition.
- Guide RTL Design/DV teams for high-quality implementation and successful commercialization.
- Work with software teams for post-silicon tuning to achieve target performance and power.
- Support system-level analysis across interconnects, memory, power, and related subsystems.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.
- Hands-on experience in IP architecture and micro-architecture development.
- Knowledge of SoC architecture areas such as high-speed interconnects, bus protocols, memory technologies, and power architecture.
- Experience with Verilog and logic design principles including timing, area, and power considerations.
- Experience with performance and system-level analysis (bandwidth, latency, QoS, concurrency).
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work with minimal supervision; good communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience with UVM and test-plan development; familiarity with DDR, PCIe, CXL, compression, encryption, ECC.
- Nice-to-have: understanding of interconnect protocols (AHB/AXI/ACE/ACE-Lite/CHI) and ARM architecture concepts (coherency, interconnects, security).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field with 4+ years of systems engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years of experience; OR PhD in those fields with 2+ years of experience. Preferred candidates often have 8+ years of experience in IP architecture or micro-architecture.
