Job Title

Senior Engineer II - Validation (ASIC)

Role Summary

Senior validation engineer on the NVMe flash controller validation team, responsible for pre- and post-silicon functional validation, system interoperability, performance characterization and debug of multi-core ASICs.

Builds hardware and software validation infrastructure, and works with architects and designers to influence product architecture, features, and performance.

Experience Level

Senior-level - typically 7.5+ years (Senior II). Candidates with ~5+ years may be considered for Senior I.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include validation planning, infrastructure development, characterization, data analysis, and cross-team debugging.

  • Plan, develop, code, and execute pre-silicon and post-silicon validation plans.
  • Develop embedded software, device drivers, and test tools (C, Python, Tcl) for validation infrastructure.
  • Characterize and analyze NAND flash devices across workloads and operating conditions; design and run endurance, retention, and performance tests.
  • Analyze large validation datasets and produce technical reports, graphs, and visual summaries.
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, and cross-functional teams to debug system-level issues and recommend improvements.
  • Use lab equipment and protocol analyzers for hardware and protocol-level debugging.
  • Travel as needed: 0%–25%.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 7.5+ years' relevant engineering experience (Senior II); 5+ years may be considered for Senior I.
  • Experience coding and debugging embedded firmware for NAND flash validation.
  • Strong knowledge of digital systems and computer architecture.
  • Ability to develop functional validation plans and implement software to execute them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of PCI/PCI Express system architecture and storage interfaces (NVMe, SCSI, AHCI, SATA, SAS).
  • Experience developing device drivers for Windows or Linux.
  • Experience with lab equipment (protocol analyzers) and multi-core ASIC debug.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets; advanced Excel and automated reporting.
  • Industry experience with NAND flash characterization (endurance, retention, read disturb, performance analysis).
  • Familiarity with applying machine learning to validation data.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
