Staff/Senior Engineer - Mask Design (Analog Layout)

Role Summary

Execute analog mask and layout design from block level to full chip for power controllers, drivers and DC-DC converters within Renesas' Power Business Unit. Collaborate with circuit designers, CAD and packaging teams to deliver manufacturable, reliable layouts and drive layout methodology improvements.

Experience Level

Senior - 5+ years experience in Analog Layout Design.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Perform analog block-to-chip layout and floorplanning for analog circuits (charge pumps, comparators, amplifiers, bandgaps, linear regulators).
• Integrate die-level digital, analog, PowerFET, ESD, I/O, and PAD elements, including die-to-bump connectivity and package substrate interactions.
• Drive DRC/LVS and packaging flows; design for EM and long-term reliability.
• Own layout deliverables and schedules; work independently to minimize rework through close collaboration with circuit and layout teams.
• Mentor and manage a small team of engineers; promote best practices and portability of IP across designs.

Requirements

Must-have vs nice-to-have:

• Must-have: 5+ years practical experience in analog layout design and associated DRC/LVS/packaging flows; demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of schedule-driven deliverables.
• Must-have: Strong knowledge of floorplanning, layout matching techniques, and design-for-EM and reliability; experience with die-level integration (PowerFET, ESD, I/O, PAD).
• Nice-to-have: Experience with BCD nodes and package/substrate design (flip-chip, BGA, wire-bond).
• Nice-to-have: Proficiency with IC layout CAD tools (Virtuoso XL, Calibre DRC/LVS/PEX, PVS, EM/IR/R3D) and scripting/CAD languages (SKILL, Python, Perl, Tcl).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
