Job Title

Staff Satellite FPGA Engineer (Digital Logic)

Role Summary

Design and deliver flight-ready FPGA RTL for E-Space satellite avionics. The role leads FPGA architecture, RTL development, verification, and hardware testing, working cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams.

Reports to the Director of Electrical Engineering and is based in the Saratoga, CA office.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 10+ years of experience in FPGA firmware development, including RTL design, simulation, verification, and hardware testing.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include full lifecycle FPGA development and verification for spaceflight hardware:

  • Own FPGA RTL development from concept to flight qualification.
  • Define FPGA logical architecture and HW/SW interfaces with processing subsystems.
  • Implement RTL in SystemVerilog or VHDL for Microsemi FPGAs and other SoCs.
  • Create and run design verification: testbenches, simulations, timing and stability analysis.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews; maintain requirement traceability and documentation.
  • Plan and execute lab and system-level test campaigns, including automated unit tests and system integration tests.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Software, and Systems teams to integrate FPGA logic into the overall avionics stack.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience. Separate items listed as nice-to-have when applicable.

  • 10+ years in FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Expert in SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language (TCL, shell, Python, etc.).
  • Strong verification skills and experience with timing and stability analysis.
  • Proficiency reading schematics and understanding PCB designs; comfortable with lab tools and hardware bring-up.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded software and HW/SW interfaces, including AXI4 and common buses (I2C, SPI).
  • Experience designing for space environments, including radiation effects and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency with Microsemi (Microchip) devices and toolchains.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with SystemRDL and OVM/UVM frameworks and methodology.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also accepts equivalent technical experience in lieu of the listed degree.
