Staff RFIC Design Engineer
QorvoJob Title
Staff RFIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design highly-integrated microwave and millimeter-wave RFICs in advanced silicon technologies. Work within an RFIC design team responsible for circuit-level design, EM and parasitic analysis, silicon characterization, and product-level ownership including customer interaction and system definition.
Opportunity to develop technical depth and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting indicates a preference for candidates with 5+ years of IC design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, simulate and optimize RF/mmWave IC blocks (PA, LNA, switches, phase shifters, VGAs, PLLs).
- Perform parasitic extraction, EM analysis and package-aware circuit design.
- Lead silicon characterization, debugging and validation of ICs.
- Define and implement verification methodologies (behavioral, analog, RF, AMS, VerilogA) and design process improvements.
- Collaborate with system, product and customer teams to define requirements and ensure first-time silicon success.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers on advanced circuit design and simulation techniques.
Requirements
Core technical qualifications and tools:
- Must-have: RF design experience in advanced silicon processes; deep understanding of analog, RF and mmWave design techniques, parasitic modeling and EM analysis.
- Must-have: Solid understanding of front-end PA/LNA/switch circuits and package/transition impacts.
- Must-have: Experience with silicon characterization, debugging and achieving first-time-right designs.
- Must-have: Experience with Cadence and electromagnetic simulators (EMX or equivalent); familiarity with verification methodologies (behavioral, analog, RF, AMS, Verilog/VerilogA).
- Nice-to-have: Block-level PLL design experience (PFD, charge pump, dividers, VCO); LDO and low-noise power-supply design.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of RF/mmWave beamforming architectures and circuit blocks (phase shifters, VGAs); experience performing foundry/process trade studies.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with packaging technologies and EM analysis of packages.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education Requirements
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or PhD preferred; posting specifies MSEE/PhD with 5+ years of IC design experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered based on demonstrated skills and track record.
