Staff RF Design Engineer
SemtechJob Title
Staff RF Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate RF and mixed-signal IC blocks for sub-GHz to 2.4 GHz radio systems, working at both block and system level. Join an international team developing low-power wireless solutions used in LoRa/LoRaWAN devices.
Work is split between hands-on circuit design, simulation, lab characterization, and cross-functional integration to meet performance and regulatory requirements.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff) level. The posting specifies 3+ years of semiconductor industry experience; senior technical leadership and system-level contributions are expected.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include design, verification, measurements, and cross-team collaboration:
- Lead design, simulation, and optimization of RF and baseband blocks (majority of effort).
- Perform lab measurements, device characterization, bring-up and debug of prototypes.
- Provide ATE/test support and contribute to regulatory compliance assessments.
- Work at both block and system level to ensure radio performance across sub-GHz to 2.4 GHz bands.
- Collaborate with digital, firmware, system, test, and manufacturing teams to meet product requirements.
- Contribute to specifications, design reviews, and release testing.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineering peers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education summarized separately below).
- 3+ years semiconductor industry experience in RF/CMOS IC design.
- Practical CMOS IC design expertise for RF and mixed-signal blocks across sub-GHz to 2.4 GHz.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of: LDOs/regulators, bandgap references/power-on-reset, ADCs (Σ-Δ, SAR), LNAs, mixers, filters, power amplifiers.
- Lab measurement and characterization experience; familiarity with ATE support and test plan development.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative working style.
- Proficiency in English; French is a plus.
Nice-to-have:
- RC and crystal oscillator design experience.
- Knowledge of ESD protection strategies.
- Mixed-mode circuit simulation experience (e.g. Symphony or equivalent).
- EM simulation tools experience (SiWave, HFSS, EMX).
Education Requirements
Degree in Electronics Engineering (degree level not specified in the posting). A Master's or PhD with 5+ years' experience is listed as preferred. No specific certifications were mentioned; no explicit "equivalent experience" phrasing provided.
