Job Title
Staff / Principal Security Engineer, Firmware Test, SSD
Role Summary
Lead security validation and test strategy for SSD firmware across development, qualification, release, and sustaining phases. Work with firmware and system architects to define validation frameworks, drive automation, and ensure product security readiness across multiple SSD generations.
This role is part of the SSD firmware organization based in Singapore and focuses on scalable validation, root-cause analysis, and cross-functional security risk mitigation.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff / Principal). The role expects over 6 years of relevant experience in SSD firmware testing, firmware development, security validation, or related storage technologies.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on defining validation strategy, building automation, investigating security failures, and coordinating with architecture and development teams.
- Define and own end-to-end security validation strategies across SSD product lifecycles (development, qualification, release, sustaining).
- Architect and maintain scalable security validation frameworks for current and next-generation SSD firmware platforms.
- Lead root-cause analysis of security-related failures, customer escalations, qualification issues, and field escapes; drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive security test automation roadmaps, regression infrastructure, and validation tool development to improve coverage and efficiency.
- Collaborate on secure design reviews, threat modeling, and security-focused code reviews with firmware and system architects.
- Assess and communicate security risks, validation coverage gaps, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and leadership.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers on validation methodologies, test automation, and problem-solving.
- Influence security validation standards and qualification readiness across multiple SSD product generations.
- Present technical findings, project risks, and validation status to cross-functional and leadership teams.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into validation workflows where appropriate, following organizational and legal guidelines.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills required to perform the role.
- Over 6 years of hands-on experience in SSD firmware testing, firmware development, security validation, or related storage technology roles.
- Proven experience leading security validation strategies and qualification activities across multiple SSD product generations.
- Deep understanding of SSD security architecture and storage protocols such as PCIe and NVMe.
- Experience with SSD security technologies (e.g., TCG Opal, NVMe Security, SPDM, Secure Boot), cryptography, FIPS concepts, hardware Root of Trust, and key management architectures.
- Strong background in embedded firmware systems, Python-based test automation, and validation framework development.
- Expertise in security validation, threat assessment, regression infrastructure, and root-cause analysis.
- Structured problem-solving, data-driven decision-making, and clear technical communication skills.
- Proven cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder management, mentoring, and technical leadership capabilities.
- Ability to present technical findings and influence architecture and validation decisions.
- Nice-to-have: contributions to the industry via publications, patents, or participation in standards organizations; role-appropriate AI literacy to leverage AI-enabled tools responsibly.
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
