Job Title
Staff/Principal Engineer, STPG Product Engineering - Probe
Role Summary
The Probe Product Engineer owns probe strategy and silicon learning at wafer test across first-silicon bring-up, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing. The role translates design intent, device operation, and process interactions into manufacturable probe strategies that drive yield, quality, and test-cost outcomes.
This position partners with Design, DFT, Design Validation, Process Integration, Backend Test, and Reliability to deliver scalable probe solutions for new product introductions and technology ramps.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff/Principal). Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on probe coverage strategy, probe flow enablement, and silicon-driven yield improvement.
- Define and own probe coverage intent, observability, trims, and guard-bands tied to design features and process risks.
- Release and sustain probe test flows from first silicon through qualification and HVM, balancing coverage and cost.
- Partner with Design, DFT, and DV for design-to-probe staging and test-hook readiness.
- Support first-silicon bring-up and device characterization using engineering probe platforms and lab setups.
- Drive wafer-level yield learning, bin definitions, and failure-mode analysis at probe.
- Optimize test efficiency and wafer-level speed activities to reduce test cost while preserving product risk posture.
- Leverage probe, inline, and reliability data for yield analysis and anomaly detection; contribute to AI/ML initiatives for predictive probe and test optimization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and capabilities.
- Strong fundamentals in semiconductor devices, wafer test, and product engineering.
- Proven ability to use silicon behavior and characterization data to set probe limits, guard-bands, and screening decisions.
- Experience or strong interest in silicon learning, device behavior analysis, yield mechanisms, or design-to-manufacturing integration.
- Familiarity with DFT intent, test hooks, observability, redundancy, and trim structures (ability to influence DFT/Design).
- Strong analytical skills and structured root-cause analysis capability.
- Effective written and verbal communication; experience working across global, cross-functional teams.
- Experience applying data analytics or AI/ML to test, sampling, or yield problems is beneficial.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering (hardware/circuits/semiconductor focus), Semiconductor Physics, or a related technical field.
