Staff/Principal Engineer, Product Engineering
Role Summary
Senior product engineering role within Micron's Silicon Design Validation (SDV) team focused on NAND Flash memory product validation, characterization, and qualification. The role partners with R&D, Design, Manufacturing, Test vendors, and cross-functional teams to define and deliver product specifications and resolve critical silicon issues.
Experience Level
Senior — role expects experienced engineers (typical equivalent: 6–8+ years depending on degree/experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include validation, characterization and cross-functional product support for advanced NAND designs.
- Design and execute NAND characterization, validation, and debug for digital and analog circuitry, emphasizing ONFI performance.
- Develop and run validation/characterization programs and test flows to debug advanced features and high-speed operation.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, root causes, and design/test margin improvements (Sim-to-Silicon analysis).
- Coordinate global volume data collection with design, product, and manufacturing teams; propose robust long-term solutions.
- Work with fabrication, manufacturing, system, tester vendors, and RWB teams to resolve product issues.
- Perform device electrical characterization and failure analysis using lab benches and automated testers.
- Create or maintain tester scripts, coding macros, and analysis tools as required.
- Act as product-specific technical contact across R&D, Manufacturing, Business Units, and Quality Assurance.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and personal qualities for success in this role.
- Strong knowledge of CMOS devices, circuits, and operation.
- Practical experience with semiconductor characterization techniques and test equipment.
- NAND memory architecture and operational knowledge.
- Proficiency with tester platforms (e.g., Magnum, Advantest) and tester coding.
- Programming skills for test automation and analysis: Python, Perl, C/C++ or similar.
- Data analysis and statistical methods for large dataset evaluation.
- Ability to coordinate across global teams and lead cross-functional debugging efforts.
- Effective written and verbal communication; strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Education Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent experience) with ~8 years' experience, or Master’s degree (preferred) with ~6 years' experience. Preferred coursework or background in VLSI, digital circuits, CMOS process/fabrication, and statistics. Equivalent practical experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
