Staff Power Applications Engineer (Data Center)

Role Summary

The Staff Power Applications Engineer will develop and validate core power products and reference solutions for data center power delivery, focusing on multiphase controllers, smart power stages, and point-of-load DC/DC converters. The role combines system architecture, hands-on lab verification, simulation/model correlation, and customer-facing support.

Experience Level

Senior. Minimum experience expectation: 5+ years (minimum role baseline) with preferred candidates having ~7+ years of relevant experience in power electronics or data center power systems.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical leadership across product development and customer support for data center power solutions.

• Lead system, architecture, and product definitions for data center core power solutions.
• Develop proof-of-concept simulation models and correlate them with bench measurements.
• Perform experimental verification of products under development and identify limitations.
• Engage with key customers on product roadmaps and next-generation voltage regulator/power delivery requirements.
• Create and validate reference designs and evaluation kits for customer applications.
• Produce design collateral: datasheets, evaluation kit manuals, application notes, layout guidelines, and simulation models.
• Test evaluation kits, generate evaluation reports, and support troubleshooting of complex issues.
• Present technical material to customers and support business development activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience are listed below; preferred items follow.

Must-have:

• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including control loop theory and system architecture.
• Proven analytical and debugging skills for power circuits.
• Deep understanding of power electronics, including operation and control of DC/DC converters.
• Experience with circuit simulation and relevant software development tools or scripting for modeling.
• Hands-on lab experience with power supplies, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, DAQ equipment, and related test gear.
• Ability to work independently, manage tasks, and meet deadlines; effective cross-functional collaboration.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with multiphase buck converters and data center power architectures.
• Familiarity with IC design fundamentals and power IC architecture.
• Clear and concise technical communication skills for customer-facing activities.

Education Requirements

Minimum: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) plus 5 years of relevant experience. Preferred: M.S. in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent plus ~7 years of experience. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
