Job Title

Staff Post-Silicon DDR Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Join Arm's Bengaluru Silicon Characterization team to validate and characterize next-generation Arm SoCs. The role focuses on post-silicon characterization of DDR/LPDDR memory subsystems across process, voltage, temperature and frequency (PVTF) to identify and resolve silicon-level memory issues and improve power, performance, stability and reliability.

Experience Level

Senior - minimum 8 years of hands-on post-silicon DDR/LPDDR characterization, validation and silicon debug experience.

Responsibilities

Execute and lead post-silicon DDR/LPDDR characterization and debugging; collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers.

  • Define and execute DDR/LPDDR post-silicon characterization plans for performance, power, functionality, electrical margins and reliability.
  • Identify, reproduce and drive root-cause analysis of complex silicon and memory subsystem issues.
  • Perform eye margining, timing analysis, voltage/frequency shmoo characterization and electrical measurements using MSOs, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and other lab equipment.
  • Analyze controller, PHY and system-level memory behavior to identify performance bottlenecks and operating limits.
  • Develop reusable automation (Python/C++) for instrumentation, data collection and reporting.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, PHY, firmware, verification and platform teams to resolve issues and improve methodologies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers; communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and desirable skills.

  • Must-have: 8+ years of hands-on post-silicon DDR/LPDDR characterization, validation, silicon debug and root-cause analysis of memory subsystem issues.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of DDR4/DDR5 and/or LPDDR4/4X/LPDDR5/5X architectures, memory controllers, PHY operation, training, calibration and timing requirements.
  • Must-have: Experience using mixed-signal/high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and other laboratory debug equipment.
  • Must-have: Experience with eye margining, Vref characterization, voltage/frequency shmoo testing, timing margin analysis and PVTF characterization of silicon.
  • Must-have: Strong programming and automation skills (Python, C/C++, scripting or similar) and ability to analyze measurement data and communicate technical findings.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with DDR6, HBM, PoP or advanced memory packaging; signal and power integrity, jitter/noise analysis, and high-speed interface behavior.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience characterizing memory bandwidth/latency/power, ECC and controller/PHY debugging, automated characterization frameworks, and familiarity with Arm-based SoCs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's degree preferred.
