Job Title
Staff Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design transistor-level mixed-signal circuits for advanced high-speed data converters within the Advanced Cores Group (ACG). The role focuses on implementing key circuit blocks, evaluating system-level trade-offs, and coordinating with layout, evaluation, and test teams to deliver converter cores for SoC products.
Hybrid role based in Durham, NC with cross-functional collaboration across geographically distributed teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 5+ years of CMOS design experience; the staff title indicates senior-level responsibilities and technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with other designers to implement transistor-level circuit blocks within defined architectures.
- Assess system-level impacts of block parameters and make engineering trade-offs.
- Design wide-bandwidth amplifiers, comparators, switched-capacitor circuits, precision voltage/current references, and LDOs.
- Prepare design documentation and lead/present design reviews.
- Guide layout, evaluation, and test engineering teams through silicon implementation and validation.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers as needed.
Requirements
Technical must-have and preferred skills:
- 5+ years' experience in CMOS design with hands-on transistor-level mixed-signal work.
- Proficient with Cadence schematic capture and SPICE simulation tools.
- Experience using MATLAB for behavioral modeling or algorithm development.
- Strong understanding of analog circuit topologies and design practices for precision and high-speed blocks.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in large, distributed teams.
- May require export licensing approval; applicants who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be subject to an export licensing review.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in high-speed data converter or SerDes PHY design.
- Signal processing knowledge related to calibration algorithms.
Education Requirements
M.S. or beyond in Electrical Engineering is specified.
