Staff Memory Controller Architecture and Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Staff Memory Controller Architecture and Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and architect memory controller IP and related ASIC blocks for high-performance, low-power SoC products. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, product, program) to define architecture and drive implementation from specification through silicon.
Experience Level
Senior role. Typically requires 6+ years of ASIC design-related experience; works independently, provides guidance to others, and influences cross-functional decisions.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and model memory controller architectures, circuit specifications, and logic designs based on system requirements.
- Create system simulations and validate architectural choices for performance, power, and area trade-offs.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, product, and program teams to develop and execute implementation strategies.
- Evaluate design flow from RTL through synthesis, place & route, timing, power analysis, and verification.
- Use RTL-to-GDS and custom IC design tools (e.g., Virtuoso) to implement complex blocks and SoC integrations.
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation and specifications.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to other engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Substantial ASIC experience across design, verification, validation, or integration; senior-level competency expected.
- Experience with architecture and design tools for ASIC/SoC development.
- Scripting and programming skills for automation and analysis.
- Familiarity with design verification methodologies and flows.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present and negotiate technical decisions with senior leadership.
- Proven ability to work independently and influence cross-functional technical decisions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR a Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years' relevant experience; OR a PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field with 2+ years' relevant experience. Preferred fields: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
