Staff MCU Application Engineer

Role Summary

Develop, debug, and optimize embedded firmware for Renesas microcontrollers and provide technical application support to customers. The role reports to the Manager, MCU Application Engineering (Taiwan or Japan) and works with FAEs, marketing, and BU engineering to drive design-ins and resolve customer escalations.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 8+ years of professional industry experience in embedded systems.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and customer-facing responsibilities:

• Provide application engineering support and technical guidance to customers using Renesas MCU products.
• Translate customer requirements into MCU solutions and recommend products or design approaches.
• Develop, debug, and optimize embedded firmware in C/C++ for bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Create proof-of-concept demos to showcase MCU capabilities.
• Collaborate with FAEs, marketing, and BU engineering to support design-ins and handle customer escalations.
• Manage technical escalations and coordinate internal resources to resolve issues promptly.
• Provide training and technical knowledge transfer to internal teams and customers as needed.
• Monitor industry trends and provide input for MCU product roadmap decisions.

Requirements

Summary of must-have and nice-to-have qualifications.

• Must-have: 8+ years in embedded systems; strong embedded MCU firmware development experience in C/C++; experience debugging and testing embedded applications; ability to work directly with customers and internal stakeholders; strong problem-solving and communication skills in English.
• Nice-to-have: RTOS experience (FreeRTOS, Azure RTOS); familiarity with MCU peripherals and protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, PMBus, CAN, Ethernet); IoT connectivity, server protocols, and security experience; foundational CPU architecture and electronic circuit knowledge; prior AE/FAE or customer-facing engineering experience.
• Role is based in Taipei and requires regular engagement with customers in Taiwan while collaborating with APAC teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
