Job Title
Staff Implementation Design Engineer
Role Summary
Staff-level technical contributor on a digital engineering team delivering back-end physical implementation and signoff for highly integrated mixed-signal SoCs used in IoT products. Work covers block- and chip-level implementation through manufacturing, including maintaining and enhancing place-and-route (PnR) flows.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff-level. Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on back-end implementation, signoff, and flow maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Block- and chip-level floorplanning, pre-wire and timing optimization.
- Data preparation for IP, including analog and RF macros.
- Place-and-route for block macros and full-chip: timing-driven placement/routing, clock-tree synthesis, power routing.
- Timing closure and signoff static timing analysis (STA).
- Parasitic extraction and generation of detailed parasitic data.
- Static and dynamic power/rail analysis and signal-integrity analysis.
- Physical verification including LVS and DRC; implement physical ECOs.
- Maintain and develop PnR flows and evaluate new tools and flow features.
- Apply design-for-yield and design-for-test techniques during implementation.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong knowledge of IC design flow and SoC/ASIC back-end implementation (synthesis, floorplanning, CTS, power planning, PnR, timing-driven routing).
- Proficient scripting ability (Tcl, Perl, Python) to maintain and develop implementation flows.
- Experience with parasitic generation, STA signoff, signal integrity analysis, and power/rail analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of low-power design flows (voltage/power domains, power shutoff, retention) and CMOS fabrication processes.
- Understanding of design-for-test techniques (scan insertion, ATPG, memory BIST, JTAG).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain technical concepts to senior leaders.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with quality systems and formal procedures.
- Experience evaluating implementation tools and developing new flow features.
- Prior work on highly integrated mixed-signal SoCs or IoT product platforms.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent (degree or equivalent practical experience).
