Job Title
Principal Engineer, Analog Design
Role Summary
Senior analog/mixed-signal IC designer responsible for developing key analog IP blocks and driving design quality from schematic through silicon bring-up. Works on a cross-functional team with layout, verification, and SoC integration engineers to close performance and reliability requirements.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 10–15 years of experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design.
Responsibilities
Deliver transistor-level analog and mixed-signal designs and support their validation.
- Design and develop analog/mixed-signal IP: amplifiers (op-amps, instrumentation), comparators, data converters (SAR, delta-sigma, pipeline), bandgap references, LDOs/DC-DC basics, and monitoring circuits (POR, power-good).
- Perform transistor-level schematic design, simulation, and verification using industry EDA tools.
- Analyze performance across PVT: corner simulations, Monte Carlo mismatch, noise, and reliability assessments.
- Collaborate with layout engineers to ensure parasitic-aware design and performance closure.
- Participate in architecture discussions, design tradeoffs, reviews, and verification planning.
- Support silicon bring-up, lab validation, and on-chip debugging.
- Produce clear documentation of specifications, simulations, and validation results; mentor junior engineers.
- Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security practices in all activities.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for successful performance in the role.
- 10+ years practical experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design (architecture to verification).
- Strong grasp of analog fundamentals: device operation, biasing, gain/bandwidth, stability/compensation, noise and mismatch.
- Experience with transistor-level design and simulation in CMOS technologies.
- Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools (for example, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre).
- Ability to run and interpret PVT, corner, and Monte Carlo simulations; strong analytical and debugging skills.
- Effective communication and documentation skills; experience working in global, cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Basic scripting skills (Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with low-power techniques, layout concepts, parasitic effects, and silicon validation/lab debugging.
- Exposure to advanced process nodes (Bulk CMOS, FDSOI, FinFET) and tape-out experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
