Principal Field Application Engineering
Role Summary
The Principal Field Application Engineer (FAE) engages with RF and silicon photonics customers early in the development cycle to assess technical needs, recommend GlobalFoundries technology solutions, and drive opportunities toward design win (DWIN) and tapeout.
The role partners with account management, product marketing, and internal technical experts to produce application-specific proposals and remove adoption barriers to convert opportunities into revenue.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum guidance: 5+ years of experience in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer engagement, technical advocacy, and cross-functional coordination to achieve design wins and tapeouts.
- Engage customers to understand technical requirements for IC product development.
- Assess competitive landscape and advocate GF value propositions.
- Partner with account managers, product marketing, and technical experts to create application-specific presentations and proposals.
- Collaborate with account team to align technical and commercial terms into design-winning proposals.
- Identify and resolve technical or process issues to convert DWIN into product tapeout.
- Advocate internally for feature or capability improvements to close competitive gaps.
- Support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in all activities.
- Travel as required (primarily domestic with some international travel).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process.
- Working knowledge of IC chip design flows and tools from architecture through performance characterization for RF and photonics technologies.
- Technical program management skills; strong problem solving, ownership, teamwork, and communication abilities.
- Ability to create and present technical proposals that combine application and commercial considerations.
- Willingness to travel up to ~20% (primarily domestic, some international).
- Fluency in English, written and verbal.

Nice-to-have: Experience with digital/analog mixed-signal, high-voltage power, eNVM, millimeter wave, silicon photonics, SoC integration, or defense/government business development; demonstrated project management and planning skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical field (for example, applied physics) is stated as the baseline; a Master’s degree or PhD is listed as preferred. Equivalent practical experience is accepted per the posting language.
