Job Title

Staff HIG ESD and Latch-up Engineer - HBM (TPG)

Role Summary

Join Micron's HBM Design Architecture team to define and validate ESD and latch-up protection for advanced DRAM and HBM products. The role drives protection strategy from early design through silicon validation and high-volume manufacturing, interfacing with design, packaging, foundries, and reliability teams.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff) level. This is a staff engineering role.

Responsibilities

Accountable for chip- and IP-level ESD and latch-up protection strategy, validation, and cross-team coordination.

  • Define and own ESD and latch-up strategies for HBM DRAM, base die, I/O, TSVs, and die-to-die interfaces.
  • Establish requirements, targets, and sign-off criteria aligned with JEDEC/ESDA standards.
  • Enable protection circuits and safe layout practices across designs and technologies.
  • Lead silicon validation, failure analysis, and correlation of pre-silicon assumptions to silicon results.
  • Serve as technical interface to foundries and collaborate with design, packaging, reliability, and product teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience relevant to ESD and latch-up engineering.

  • Strong fundamentals in ESD physics, latch-up mechanisms, and advanced CMOS devices.
  • Hands-on experience with ESD protection circuits and latch-up prevention techniques.
  • Familiarity with JEDEC and ESDA standards, including HBM, CDM, and JESD78.
  • Experience in silicon validation, failure analysis, and correlating silicon results to pre-silicon models.
  • Proven ability to interface with foundries and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with SCR-based clamps, distributed ESD networks, rail-based strategies, and mentoring or influencing design methodology across teams.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry/practical experience. (Source lists Electrical Engineering explicitly and allows equivalent industry experience.)
