Job Title

Staff Hardware Security Engineer

Role Summary

Hands-on role on the Arm Product Security team to evaluate and improve security of SoC hardware platforms. The role focuses on identifying silicon-level security issues, demonstrating impact via proof-of-concepts, and working with architecture, silicon, firmware and platform teams to design mitigations.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. Suitable for engineers with substantial experience in hardware security, microarchitecture, and low-level systems security.

Responsibilities

Technical, hands-on work to assess and improve hardware security across SoC platforms.

  • Perform security assessments of SoC components and features (trust anchors, debug interfaces, isolation mechanisms).
  • Analyze architectures, hardware interfaces, and RTL to identify security-relevant behavior and vulnerabilities.
  • Develop proof-of-concept demonstrations showing realistic system-level impact of hardware weaknesses.
  • Create and maintain tools and methodologies for hardware security evaluation and experimentation.
  • Collaborate with architecture, silicon design, firmware, and platform teams to communicate findings and support mitigations.
  • Document findings in clear, well-structured technical reports.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience required for the role; followed by concise nice-to-have items.

  • Practical experience in offensive security, vulnerability research, or low-level systems security.
  • Deep knowledge of microarchitecture and SoC design principles.
  • Experience reviewing architectural specifications and RTL for security-relevant behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of modern SoC architectures: security boundaries, privilege levels, hardware isolation.
  • Experience analysing hardware interfaces and components (debug infrastructure, secure boot, interconnects).
  • Familiarity with hardware debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD) and hardware attack techniques.
  • Proficiency in low-level programming (C) and working knowledge of assembly (preferably Arm).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Arm-based platforms and SoC security architectures.
  • Familiarity with fault injection, side-channel analysis, laboratory equipment and hardware bring-up/validation workflows.
  • Contributions to hardware security research, tooling, or vulnerability disclosures.
