Staff Hardware Engineer, Optics
Role Summary
Member of the Cloud Platform Optics team responsible for design, verification, and validation of highly integrated optical components and platform hardware used in AI and data center applications. The role spans schematic/PCB design, lab validation, system-level testing, and coordination with firmware and manufacturing through NPI.
Expected base pay range (USD): 109,400 - 161,950 per annum.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical experience guidance: Bachelor's degree + 3–5 years, Master's/PhD + 2–3 years, or equivalent professional experience.
Responsibilities
The role is hands-on with hardware design, verification, and validation for optical modules and AI platform components.
- Design, develop, and test electrical hardware for optical modules and AI platforms.
- Perform hands-on testing and debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal analyzers.
- Participate in hardware validation and verification; debug system-level issues and control loops.
- Produce and maintain detailed design documentation: schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs.
- Collaborate with firmware, DSP, and systems teams to integrate hardware and control software.
- Work with manufacturing to support production, assembly, and NPI activities.
- Execute system-level testing under varied operating conditions and validate performance metrics.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and conditions; preferred items follow.

Must-have: Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practical hardware design practices.

Must-have: Experience with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout (examples: Allegro, OrCAD).

Must-have: Proficiency using lab equipment and electrical measurement/testing methodologies.

Must-have: Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and effective communication/teamwork.

Must-have: Eligibility to access export-controlled technology and related information as required by U.S. export control laws.

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with firmware for board-level communication and scripting.

Nice-to-have: Basic knowledge of power management, high-speed signal and power integrity, thermal management, and EMI/EMC considerations.

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with industry standards and protocols related to DCI technology.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and/or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields with 2–3 years of relevant experience; or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a formal degree.
