Staff Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Design, develop, qualify, and support semiconductor test hardware for wafer sort and final test, including probe cards, FPCs, daughter cards, sockets, debug hardware, and tester interfaces. Lead hardware projects from concept through production release and manufacturing ramp.

Work with global engineering, manufacturing, and external suppliers to ensure hardware readiness, reliability, and scalability for production.

Experience Level

Senior - requires substantial experience; posting specifies a minimum of 7 years in the semiconductor industry focused on test hardware design.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end hardware engineering, qualification, and production readiness.

• Design and develop probe cards, daughter cards, FPCs, debug boards, sockets, and tester interface hardware.
• Create and review schematics, PCB/layouts, technical specifications, manufacturing documentation, and PCSFs.
• Lead probe card and FPC projects through vendor selection, manufacturing, qualification, buyoff, and production release.
• Execute hardware verification, qualification activities, and engineering buyoff readiness assessments.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective design changes.
• Support manufacturing expansion and production transfers by delivering qualified test hardware for site readiness.
• Manage suppliers: RFQs, technical reviews, delivery follow-up, and supplier compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain hardware configuration, documentation, and release processes within corporate systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Engineering, Test Engineering, NPI, Operations, and external vendors to meet project milestones.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, plus communication and project coordination capabilities.

• Proven experience in semiconductor test hardware development (probe cards, sockets, tester interfaces).
• Experience with Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) design and qualification.
• Hardware debugging, failure analysis, and qualification/buyoff process knowledge.
• Engineering change management and hardware configuration control experience.
• Supplier and vendor technical management experience (RFQs, reviews, delivery coordination).
• Ability to generate and review technical documentation, specifications, and manufacturing artifacts.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis and measurement uncertainty principles.
• Understanding of industrial, automotive, and consumer market requirements for hardware.
• Strong verbal and written English communication, cross-functional collaboration, and project coordination skills.
• Self-motivated, adaptable, able to manage multiple concurrent projects and balance production support with development work.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering.
