Job Title

Staff Hardware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver hardware used in PsiQuantum's silicon-photonics quantum systems. The role sits on the Electronics team and works cross-functionally with thermal, mechanical, firmware, and optical engineers to produce hardware that meets system-level and manufacturing requirements.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 7+ years of relevant product development experience, including release to volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include schematic and PCB work, validation, and documentation for electro-optic and supporting electronics.

  • Create schematics and oversee PCB layout for analog and digital circuits, including high-speed transceivers, 10+ Gbps electrical and optical links, FPGAs, and microcontrollers.
  • Design clock distribution, power supply filtering, inrush current limiting, and power distribution networks.
  • Ensure signal integrity and EMI suppression are addressed in designs.
  • Develop and implement test setups for electro-optic modules and system components.
  • Characterize, optimize, and debug analog, digital, and electro-optic circuitry using oscilloscopes, VNAs, signal generators, multimeters, and DC supplies.
  • Develop measurement software and analyze test data to extract performance metrics.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test results, and design changes; collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet system requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.

  • 7+ years of experience in product development, including taking designs to volume manufacturing.
  • Proven experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for mixed-signal and high-speed designs.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed electrical and optical data links (10+ Gbps), transceivers, and FPGAs.
  • Strong skills in signal integrity, EMI mitigation, and power-distribution design.
  • Experience characterizing and debugging hardware with oscilloscopes, VNAs, signal generators, and related lab equipment.
  • Ability to develop automated measurement software and analyze experimental data.
  • Clear documentation practices and experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.

Education Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
