Job Title

Staff FPGA Engineer, EW

Role Summary

The Staff FPGA Engineer will lead end-to-end FPGA design and verification for software-defined radio platforms used in electronic warfare (EW). The role sits on the EW team responsible for radios, embedded processing, and power systems, and requires working across hardware and software to deliver mission-ready FPGA subsystems for deployed EW systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level - 12+ years of relevant industry experience (embedded DSP/FPGA/radio systems).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include ownership of FPGA development for EW radios, integration with hardware and software, and delivery of verified designs on AMD/Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.

  • Own FPGA architecture, implementation, and verification for software-defined radio platforms.
  • Bring up new boards with software and electrical engineers; perform system integration and debugging.
  • Design and test VHDL/Verilog DSP modules and supporting infrastructure.
  • Integrate subsystems into larger FPGA cores; resolve resource and timing issues.
  • Develop drivers and control logic for custom RF component boards (PLLs, mixed-signal front ends, etc.).
  • Establish and improve FPGA design processes, CI/HITL flows, and documentation practices.
  • Manage project deliverables and timelines; communicate technical status to stakeholders.

Requirements

Fundamental qualifications and practical skills required and preferred for the role.

Must-have

  • 12+ years of industry experience working on FPGA/DSP for embedded devices or software-defined radios.
  • Proven experience with Xilinx/AMD SoC and FPGA platforms and architecture.
  • Strong HDL design skills in VHDL and/or Verilog for DSP implementations.
  • Experience with bring-up and high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, JESD, Aurora, multi-gigabit optical links).
  • Proficiency in Linux development environments and standard version control (Git) and CI workflows.
  • Experience developing drivers or control interfaces for RF hardware.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience mentoring or leading small engineering teams (1–3 engineers); strong written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with the latest AMD SoC/FPGAs and advanced AMD FPGA features (NOC, partial reconfiguration, DFX, segmented flows).
  • Working knowledge of signal processing flows from data converters to digital bits.
  • Exposure to wireless communications or radar system design.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope).
  • Experience with AMD AIE tiles or other on-chip AI/accelerator fabrics.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
