Job Title

Staff FPGA Engineer, EW

Role Summary

Join the Electronic Warfare (EW) team to lead FPGA architecture, design, and verification for software‑defined radio platforms supporting EW functions. The role focuses on end‑to‑end FPGA development on AMD/Xilinx SoC/FPGA devices and establishing robust design and verification processes.

Based in Costa Mesa, CA, you will collaborate with electrical and software engineers to deliver high‑reliability, mission‑ready FPGA subsystems for contested environments.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff-level). Years of experience not specified in the posting.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities are design, integration, verification, and delivery of FPGA-based subsystems for software-defined radios.

  • Lead FPGA development for software-defined radio platforms implementing EW functions.
  • Design and test VHDL/Verilog DSP modules and FPGA infrastructure.
  • Integrate modules into larger FPGA cores and resolve resource and timing conflicts.
  • Bring up new boards with software and electrical teams; validate high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Develop drivers for custom RF components (PLLs, mixed-signal front ends).
  • Manage project deliverables, documentation, and cross-team communication.
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers through larger design tasks.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and team capabilities required to perform the role.

Must-have:

  • Strong experience implementing DSP for embedded devices and/or software-defined radios.
  • Experience with Xilinx/AMD SoC and FPGA architectures.
  • Experience bringing up high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, JESD, Aurora, multi-Gbps optical links).
  • Proficient in HDL (VHDL and/or Verilog).
  • Proficiency in a Linux development environment.
  • Proficient with Git and CI/CD workflows (including TCL, CI/HITL).
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience mentoring or leading 1–3 engineers on larger design tasks; strong communication and self-starting attitude.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with the latest AMD SoC/FPGAs and AMD FPGA NOC features (partial reconfiguration, DFX, segmented flow).
  • Working knowledge of full signal-processing flows (data converter to bits) and wireless or radar systems.
  • Experience with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope).
  • Experience using AMD AIE tiles for processing.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
