Job Title
Staff FPGA Engineer (DSP)
Role Summary
The Staff Satellite FPGA Engineer - Signal Processing will lead RTL design, verification, and hardware test of avionics FPGA systems for E‑Space satellites. This role reports to the Senior Director, Product & Systems Integration, Semiconductor Development team and is based in the Saratoga, CA office.
Work focuses on digital signal processing blocks, RF channelization/beamforming, HW/SW interfaces, and flight-grade FPGA implementations.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 10+ years FPGA firmware/RTL experience (the posting specifies 10+ years).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, implementation, verification, and hardware validation of FPGA-based signal processing for satellites:
- Own FPGA RTL development in SystemVerilog or VHDL from concept to flight.
- Define FPGA logical architecture, requirements, and HW/SW interfaces with cross-discipline teams.
- Implement digital channelizer and beamformer from bit-accurate reference models.
- Drive device selection and define PCB architecture affecting FPGA integration.
- Perform design verification: simulations, testbenches, timing analysis, and hardware bring-up.
- Lead design reviews and maintain requirement traceability and documentation.
- Plan and execute test campaigns (unit manual/automated tests and system-level tests).
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications for successful candidates:
-
Must-have: 10+ years FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
-
Must-have: Strong SystemVerilog or VHDL skills and experience with verification techniques, timing and stability analysis.
-
Must-have: Competence in scripting (TCL, shell, Python) and familiarity with lab tools and hardware bring-up.
-
Must-have: Understanding of PCB design and schematics, embedded software interfaces, ADC/DAC interfaces and JESD204, and high-speed digital communications interfaces.
-
Must-have: Experience designing for space environments including radiation effects and mitigation.
-
Preferred: Familiarity with OVM/UVM methodology, SystemRDL, and model-based design methodologies.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience (the posting specifies a Master’s degree or equivalent).
