Staff FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
VTG is hiring a Staff FPGA Engineer to support a defense customer in Reston, VA. The role focuses on rapid development, testing, and implementation of FPGA designs on Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms for signal processing and high-speed communications.
Work includes design, hands-on board bring-up, verification, and ensuring designs meet system-level requirements and safety/performance standards. Position is contingent upon contract award.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will work across the full design lifecycle and support integration, testing, and deployment.
- Participate in requirements, concept, RTL design, verification, and hands-on board bring-up.
- Develop and test FPGA designs on Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.
- Integrate third-party vendor IP and ensure proper integration and validation.
- Implement interfaces and signal types such as high-speed communications (Ethernet, serial) and analog/digital signal processing.
- Ensure designs trace back to top-level system requirements and meet relevant safety and performance standards.
- Debug and resolve issues at the HDL and system level during testing and bring-up.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and qualifications.
- 12+ years professional FPGA design and development experience.
- Proficient in VHDL and/or Verilog and HDL-based debugging.
- Experience with Xilinx SoC platforms (highly preferred).
- Familiarity with FPGA toolflows such as Vivado, ModelSim, or Quartus.
- Experience with SoC hardware bring-up, preferably ARM-based systems.
- Experience implementing high-speed interfaces and signal-processing functions.
- Ability to perform hands-on board testing and resolve system-level bugs.
- Active U.S. Secret clearance and ability to maintain it.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing for safety-critical functions.
- Experience with FPGA interfaces and high-speed buses.
- Low-level firmware experience (C/C++) for bring-up and test.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is specified.
