Job Title
Staff FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Provide technical leadership for FPGA architecture, implementation, and integration within security-focused systems. Own FPGA design decisions, drive delivery across FPGA workstreams, and act as a hands-on contributor collaborating with hardware, software, and product teams.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff level. No explicit years stated; role requires demonstrated experience delivering complex FPGA systems.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate FPGA design and delivery across projects:
- Design, implement, verify, and debug VHDL-based FPGA solutions.
- Define FPGA architecture: partitioning, interfaces, and performance trade-offs.
- Integrate FPGA components with embedded and host software; support bring-up and system debug.
- Plan and estimate FPGA work, identify risks and dependencies, and track delivery.
- Provide technical direction, unblock engineers, and mentor team members.
- Define and improve FPGA development processes (configuration management, CI/CD, verification).
- Resolve complex technical issues such as timing closure, resource optimization, and system integration.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align FPGA deliverables with product objectives.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex FPGA-based systems.
- VHDL RTL design, synthesis, place & route, and timing closure.
- Verification methodologies: simulation, testbenches, and coverage-driven verification.
- Experience with Xilinx FPGA architectures and toolchains.
- Ability to translate algorithms into efficient FPGA implementations optimized for performance, area, and power.
- Hardware/software integration experience and debugging (bring-up).
- Software development skills (C or Python) for tooling, testing, or integration.
- Experience working in Linux and/or Windows development environments.
- Nice-to-have: Xilinx SoC platforms (Zynq, Versal), Intel/Altera tools, Verilog/SystemVerilog, cryptographic or secure hardware experience, product compliance or regulated environments.
Education Requirements
Degree or equivalent experience required: Bachelor's (or higher) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline — or equivalent practical experience.
