Staff Formal Verification Engineer
Role Summary
The Staff Formal Verification Engineer will lead formal verification for processor and digital IP blocks, creating formal test plans, building and maintaining formal environments, and driving sign-off with design and verification teams.
Work focuses on applying formal abstraction techniques and automation to ensure correctness of RISC-V processors and other digital systems.
Experience Level
Senior β 7+ years of formal verification experience in digital hardware design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Identify blocks suitable for formal verification and define formal test plans with properties and sign-off metrics.
- Implement and maintain formal verification environments using Chisel.
- Apply formal techniques and abstractions to reduce complexity and prove DUT correctness.
- Debug RTL to identify root causes of failure scenarios and work with designers to resolve them.
- Develop and maintain assertion libraries and automation scripts to support formal flows.
- Review formal setups and proofs with design and verification teams to achieve sign-off.
- Guide and train team members on effective use of formal verification tools and methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have skills and attributes:
- 7+ years experience in formal verification of digital hardware design.
- Extensive experience with formal abstraction techniques and formal sign-off processes.
- Familiarity with industry formal tools (for example, VC Formal, JasperGold).
- Proficient with hardware description and verification languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog, VHDL).
- Experience developing verification automation and scripting to support formal flows.
- Strong analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Interest in processors and digital systems; experience debugging RTL issues.
- Object-oriented programming knowledge is a plus.
Education Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
