Job Title

Staff Firmware Engineer - Memory Subsystem Lead

Role Summary

Lead firmware development and validation for the memory subsystem across pre-silicon models through silicon bring-up for Arm Neoverse-based infrastructure platforms. Provide technical direction and people leadership for a small focus team responsible for memory enablement, platform bring-up, configuration, performance, and firmware quality.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff) level: senior individual contributor with line management responsibility. The posting does not specify explicit years of experience but requires substantial industry experience in low-level firmware and platform bring-up.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on delivery, cross-team integration, and people management in the memory subsystem domain.

  • Lead development, integration and validation of the memory subsystem across pre-silicon platforms and silicon bring-up environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware, validation, platform firmware and system architecture teams to ensure coherent memory subsystem bring-up and integration.
  • Debug complex system-level issues across hardware/software boundaries and triage ambiguous failures.
  • Optimize memory behavior for correctness, performance, latency, bandwidth, reliability, and power efficiency; make trade-offs based on platform goals.
  • Review designs, implementation plans and validation results; contribute hands-on to unblock delivery when required.
  • Line-manage 3–5 engineers: goal setting, coaching, feedback, performance evaluation and technical development.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering practices, documentation, and debug discipline across teams.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Proven industry experience building complex firmware or low-level system software, with demonstrated leadership or mentoring and a strong delivery record.
  • Experience with firmware development on pre-silicon and silicon platforms; preferably on Arm-based systems.
  • Deep knowledge of memory subsystem enablement: memory initialization, platform configuration, controller/PHY interaction, training flows, error handling, performance tuning, and bring-up debug.
  • Strong technical judgment: assessing trade-offs, managing technical risk and debugging system-level failures.
  • Experience working at the hardware/software interface and collaborating with hardware build, validation, architecture, platform firmware and QA teams.
  • Strong communication skills and history of effective cross-team collaboration.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience on server or infrastructure platforms and production-facing environments.
  • Familiarity with system architecture, boot flows, firmware interfaces, OS fundamentals, device drivers and platform configuration.
  • Experience with DDR/LPDDR, memory controllers, PHY initialization, ECC/RAS, memory performance analysis or board/silicon bring-up.
  • Knowledge of testing strategies, CI, validation planning, release readiness and defect triage.
  • Experience working in globally distributed teams.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
