Job Title

Staff Firmware Engineer - Memory Subsystem Lead

Role Summary

Lead firmware development and validation for the memory subsystem across pre-silicon models and silicon bring-up on Arm Neoverse–based infrastructure platforms. Provide technical leadership, cross-team coordination, and hands-on engineering to ensure memory subsystem correctness, performance, and production readiness.

Manage and mentor a small team while collaborating with hardware, platform firmware, validation, and architecture teams to deliver robust platform firmware.

Experience Level

Senior — requires approximately 10–15 years of professional experience in firmware or low-level system software and demonstrated leadership/mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for technical delivery, integration and validation of the memory subsystem and for coaching a small engineering team.

  • Lead development, integration and validation of memory subsystem firmware across pre-silicon and silicon bring-up milestones.
  • Collaborate with hardware, platform firmware, validation, and system architecture teams to coordinate memory bring-up and platform integration.
  • Debug complex, cross-boundary hardware/software failures and provide root-cause analysis and mitigations.
  • Optimize memory behavior for correctness, latency, bandwidth, reliability, and power; evaluate trade-offs against platform goals.
  • Review designs, validation results and critical code; contribute hands-on to unblock delivery when required.
  • Line manage 3–5 engineers: goal setting, coaching, performance reviews and technical development.
  • Mentor engineers and establish engineering practices, documentation and debug discipline for long-term quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience and leadership attributes.

  • 10–15 years of industry experience in complex firmware or low-level system software with a strong delivery record.
  • Practical experience with pre-silicon models and silicon bring-up; ownership or technical leadership of platform firmware development.
  • Deep knowledge of memory subsystem enablement: memory initialization, platform configuration, controller/PHY interaction, training flows, error handling, and performance tuning.
  • Proven ability to debug system-level issues across hardware/software boundaries and make technical trade-offs under ambiguity.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with hardware build, validation, architecture, platform firmware and QA teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience mentoring or leading engineers.
  • Line management experience (managing 3–5 engineers) and delivering team outcomes.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience on server or infrastructure platforms and production-facing environments.
  • Familiarity with DDR/LPDDR, memory controllers, PHY initialization, ECC, RAS, and memory performance analysis.
  • Understanding of system architecture, boot flows, firmware interfaces, device drivers and OS fundamentals.
  • Experience with CI, validation planning, release readiness and defect triage in firmware projects.
  • Experience working in globally distributed teams.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
