Job Title

Staff Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Senior firmware engineer within Arm's GPU (Mali) firmware team responsible for developing, maintaining and improving firmware components that interface with GPU hardware. The role combines hands-on development, debugging and design with technical leadership and mentoring of other engineers.

Works closely with hardware and software teams across Arm's European design centres to deliver firmware for next-generation Mali products.

Responsibilities

Deliver firmware across the full development lifecycle and provide technical leadership to the team.

  • Design, implement, test and document firmware features and improvements.
  • Debug firmware and collaborate with hardware teams to validate hardware behavior.
  • Perform and lead code and design reviews.
  • Estimate and decompose work; participate in Agile development activities.
  • Mentor and guide engineers to develop technical skills and sound engineering judgment.
  • Integrate firmware with other software and hardware components and maintain version-controlled codebases.

Requirements

Core technical skills and demonstrated experience relevant to embedded firmware development.

  • Must-have:
    • Proficient in C programming and embedded application design.
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; practical experience with embedded systems and computer architecture.
    • Experience with version control and bug-tracking workflows.
    • Effective team working, organization and communication skills; ability to mentor others.
  • Nice-to-have:
    • Firmware development for MCU platforms and RTOS experience.
    • Knowledge of memory subsystem technology and Linux.
    • Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
