Job Title

Staff Firmware Developer

Role Summary

Hands-on individual contributor responsible for designing, implementing, debugging, reviewing and testing low-level firmware and device drivers for next-generation automotive/robotics compute subsystems.

Work with technical leads and architects across domains to deliver production-quality firmware that enables partners and customers to use platform capabilities.

Experience Level

Level - Senior. Candidate should have approximately 10+ years of hands-on embedded software experience with recent, regular coding at OS kernel or bare-metal level.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on developing and validating production-grade low-level software for compute platforms.

  • Design, implement, debug, integrate and test firmware and low-level system components.
  • Develop core firmware and device drivers for automotive compute subsystems.
  • Write, review and test robust C, assembly and Yocto-based code for firmware and system components.
  • Analyze and optimize CPU, GPU, I/O and memory usage across system components.
  • Plan and prioritize engineering work packages with project management and technical leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and productive engineering team environment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for day-one effectiveness.

  • 10+ years developing embedded software with recent, regular coding at OS kernel or bare-metal level.
  • Expert-level C and assembly programming for low-level compute infrastructures.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering core features, drivers or system components in recent roles.
  • Experience using, deploying and developing for Linux.
  • Knowledge of Arm architectures and system-on-chips (Cortex-M, Cortex-R, Cortex-A).
  • Strong written and spoken English; ability to produce clear documentation and influence technical decisions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with C++ or Rust for system programming.
  • Scripting proficiency (Python, Bash).
  • Zephyr RTOS development experience.
  • Familiarity with open-source projects such as TF-A, TF-M, U-Boot, Xen, SOAFEE, ROS, Autoware.
  • Knowledge of automotive, industrial or robotics standards and safety domains.
  • Prior mentoring experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent practical experience, in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
