Staff Firmware Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Individual-contributor, customer-facing role in the Partner Enablement Group based in Shanghai supporting Arm Neoverse server platforms. Focus on platform firmware, system bring-up, and cross-layer debug across silicon, firmware, and operating systems to enable partner platforms for cloud and datacenter customers.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 8+ years of experience in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for partner platform enablement and integration.
- Act as primary technical interface for customers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Lead and support system bring-up activities, including firmware-to-Linux boot flow enablement.
- Perform hands-on debugging across firmware, silicon, and system-level issues, including multi-socket and interconnect configurations.
- Advise on firmware integration and upstream open-source contributions.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to debug DDR, PCIe, and other high-speed interface integration issues.
- Track and drive customer issues: triage, root-cause analysis, prioritization, and resolution with internal teams.
- Deliver technical enablement via workshops, training, and documentation.
- Capture and communicate findings from customer engagements back into product and engineering teams.
Requirements
Key technical qualifications and abilities required to perform the role.
Must-have:
- 8+ years of experience in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up.
- Strong hands-on experience in system bring-up and debugging for SoC-based platforms.
- Proven expertise in platform firmware (UEFI) and low-level firmware (TF-A, SCP).
- Experience with Linux bring-up and debugging, including boot logs, kernel parameters, and early boot diagnostics.
- Good understanding of server platform architecture: CPU, memory, interconnect, and I/O subsystems.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR) from a software/bring-up perspective.
- Strong customer-facing communication and collaboration skills in a global engineering environment.
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- Experience with multi-socket systems and coherency fabrics (e.g., CMN).
- Familiarity with BMC / OpenBMC and system management flows.
- Experience supporting hyperscalers, OEMs, or large system integrators.
- Scripting skills for debug and automation (Python, Bash).
- Experience delivering technical training, workshops, or prior FAE/AE/system-integration roles.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
