Staff Field Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Provide technical leadership and customer-facing support for strategic datacenter, AI, server, and advanced computing customers. Responsible for system-level power architecture, digital multiphase power solutions, validation, debug, and program execution. Based in San Jose, CA.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 5–7+ years of relevant experience in power electronics, VR validation, or system-level power architecture.

Responsibilities

The engineer will lead customer engagements, own program execution, and perform simulation, validation, and root-cause analysis across multiple customer programs.

• Serve as lead technical interface for strategic accounts from concept to production.
• Advise on digital multiphase power controllers, power modules, and server-class power delivery.
• Support bring-up, debug, schematic and layout reviews, simulations, and full validation cycles.
• Perform VR simulations (SIMPLIS) and validate transients, efficiency, telemetry, protections, and fault response.
• Develop test plans, validation matrices, and automated test flows to cover operating modes and edge cases.
• Diagnose complex issues using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, current probes, network analyzers, and automated instrumentation.
• Collaborate with design, systems, applications, sales, and product teams to resolve issues and influence roadmaps.
• Manage multiple customer programs, track milestones and risks, and provide timely stakeholder updates.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience required to perform the role. Preferred items listed separately.

• 5–7+ years in power electronics, VR validation, or system-level power architecture.
• Hands-on bench-level electrical testing and debug experience.
• Familiarity with oscilloscopes, function generators, electronic loads, power supplies, current probes, and soldering tools.
• Experience with schematic and PCB layout review, validation, and technical reporting.
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent customer programs and work across global teams.
• Nice-to-have: experience with AI/ML accelerators, server power delivery, high-current designs, SIMPLIS, and automated test scripting.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
