Staff Engineer, STPG PE NAND
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer, STPG PE NAND
Role Summary
As a Staff Engineer on the NAND Product Reliability Architecture (NRA) team, you will own end-to-end reliability architecture for Micron's NAND products: define qualification strategies, develop reliability algorithms and system features, and optimize sampling and test time to meet quality and time-to-market goals.
This is a cross-functional role working with Technology Development, System Architecture, Design, Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality; architecture decisions directly affect qualification cycle time and field reliability.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Role expects extensive hands-on reliability or product-engineering experience; typical backgrounds have 5+ years in semiconductor reliability, test, validation, or related domains.
Responsibilities
Accountable for the architecture, validation and operational readiness of NAND reliability qualification and associated system features.
- Interpret NAND reliability specifications (internal, JEDEC, customer) and translate them into qualification plans.
- Architect end-to-end qualification strategies: stress conditions, coverage models, sampling plans, readout points and acceptance criteria.
- Design and release reliability test flows at wafer and component levels; validate readiness for new product and technology programs.
- Optimize sampling and flow coverage to reduce cost and test time while preserving statistical confidence and customer protection.
- Define and integrate reliability algorithms and system features with System Architecture, Design and Firmware teams; validate effectiveness prior to qualification use.
- Lead investigations of reliability failures using electrical characterization and physical failure analysis; provide data-backed mitigations.
- Analyze high-dimensional reliability datasets and convert results into decision-ready recommendations; build automation and AI workflows to reduce manual effort.
- Maintain clear reliability documentation and governance; own technical execution from concept through sustaining support.
- Mentor engineers and represent Product Reliability in architecture and qualification reviews and leadership updates.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience and behaviors required for this role.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in semiconductor reliability, product engineering, test, design, validation or system media architecture.
- Deep understanding of non-volatile memory operation and error-management concepts (program/erase/read algorithms, threshold-voltage distributions, page/block structure).
- Practical experience in reliability testing, product engineering, validation, firmware or system development.
- Proven architecture development capability: coverage modeling, sampling design and trade-off analysis across quality, risk, cost and cycle time.
- Working knowledge of device physics, circuits, process technology and failure mechanisms (retention, read disturb, cycling degradation, oxide breakdown).
- Strong statistical and data-analysis skills; hands-on proficiency in Python, JMP, Tableau or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with industry reliability standards, qualification sampling and confidence methodologies.
- Effective communicator with strong problem-solving and project-management skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams under time pressure.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with NAND component or wafer-level reliability testing, electrical failure analysis, or qualification-flow development.
- Background in controller/firmware integration, media/system architecture, silicon validation or advanced test development.
- Exposure to SSD, mobile, automotive or data-center qualification requirements.
- Experience using machine learning, automation, large language models or agentic AI to improve engineering productivity; patents or technical publications.
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D or FMEA.
Education Requirements
PhD; or Master’s degree with ≥3 years, or Bachelor’s degree with ≥5 years of relevant experience in Microelectronics, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline - or equivalent practical experience.
