Job Title

Staff Engineer, Solutions Engineering (DFT)

Role Summary

Customer-facing DFT applications engineer responsible for end-to-end DFT engagements from project kickoff through tape-out and first-silicon bring-up. Acts as the technical bridge between customer DFT teams and Synopsys R&D to reproduce issues, implement workarounds, and improve product flows and quality.

Experience Level

Senior; the posting lists 1+ years of hands-on DFT experience as guidance.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical ownership and hands-on support for customer DFT projects and enablement.

  • Own customer DFT engagements from kickoff through tape-out and first-silicon bring-up (scan compression, ATPG, XLBIST, OCC, IEEE 1687/1149, hierarchical flows).
  • Deliver technical training, workshops, and best-practice enablement for customer DFT teams across China.
  • Reproduce complex customer issues, create minimal test cases, and work with R&D to resolve product gaps and improve results.
  • Support pre-sales technical evaluations and benchmarks; translate requirements into proof-of-concept flows.
  • Write and maintain reusable flow documentation, known-issue summaries, and workaround guides.
  • Debug DFT/ATPG issues using simulation, waveform analysis, and DRC/log forensics under schedule pressure.
  • Work across global teams and travel to customer sites in China as required for critical engagements.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Hands-on DFT experience covering implementation, ATPG, or silicon test in a design or validation role.
  • Working knowledge of scan insertion, compression architectures, ATPG, OCC, IJTAG/IEEE 1687/1149, and hierarchical DFT methodologies.
  • Proficiency reading Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL and netlists; strong Unix/Linux command-line skills.
  • Scripting skills in Tcl, Python, or Perl to automate flows, parse logs, and build test environments.
  • Experience debugging DFT/ATPG issues using simulation tools, waveform viewers, and DRC/log analysis to isolate root cause.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication and customer-facing skills; willingness to work across time zones and travel to customer sites in China.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with commercial DFT/ATPG tools such as Synopsys TestMAX, DFTMAX, or TetraMAX.
  • Silicon bring-up, ATE pattern validation, diagnosis experience (scan chain failure analysis, logic diagnosis, failure remapping).
  • Knowledge of static timing analysis for DFT modes, scan stitching, and at-speed test constraints.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
