Staff Engineer Software - AUTOSAR MCAL
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Staff Engineer Software - AUTOSAR MCAL
Role Summary
Hands-on embedded software engineer responsible for developing AUTOSAR-compliant MCAL drivers for next-generation RISC-V automotive MCUs. The role covers driver design, implementation, hardware bring-up, integration with AUTOSAR BSW, and validation for automotive domains such as ADAS, powertrain, and domain controllers.
Work within cross-functional teams including SoC architecture, hardware, functional safety, validation, and platform software. Benefits and regional career information: Benefits and careers.
Experience Level
Mid-level - 4β6 years of embedded software development experience (AUTOSAR MCAL or low-level driver development recommended).
Responsibilities
Responsible for full lifecycle delivery of MCAL components and related engineering artifacts.
- Develop and maintain AUTOSAR MCAL drivers for peripherals (ADC, PWM, GPT, ICU, DIO, PORT, CAN, LIN, SPI, UART, WDG, MCU, FLS, Ethernet).
- Own assigned MCAL modules through requirements analysis, design, coding, configuration, unit testing, integration, and validation.
- Implement software per MISRA C and AUTOSAR coding guidelines and address static-analysis findings.
- Create software design descriptions, configuration guidance, test specifications, and traceability artifacts.
- Bring up and debug drivers on FPGA and silicon using Lauterbach, iSystem, J-Link, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with SoC architecture, hardware, safety, validation, and tools teams on clocks, resets, interrupts, DMA, and memory maps.
- Integrate MCAL components with AUTOSAR BSW stacks and configuration environments and resolve system-level issues.
- Develop automated unit, integration, and regression tests and contribute to CI-based quality checks.
- Participate in code and design reviews, defect analysis, and continuous improvement of reusable MCAL components.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role; follow-up items are nice-to-have.
- Must-have: 4β6 years embedded software experience with hands-on AUTOSAR MCAL or low-level driver development.
- Strong embedded C programming skills; practical knowledge of pointers, memory-mapped I/O, interrupts, concurrency, linker/startup concepts.
- Experience developing or integrating MCAL modules and working with AUTOSAR specifications and configuration workflows.
- Good understanding of MCU subsystems: clocks, resets, interrupt controllers, DMA, timers, watchdogs, communication peripherals, memory interfaces.
- Experience with MISRA C, static analysis, unit testing, and requirements-to-test traceability.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 software development practices and safety-oriented engineering deliverables.
- Hardware bring-up and debugging experience using Lauterbach, iSystem, J-Link, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or similar tools.
- Experience with Git and scripting (Python or shell) for build and test automation.
- Ability to read hardware specifications and translate register-level behavior into production-quality drivers.
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on use of EB tresos Studio, Vector DaVinci Configurator, or equivalent AUTOSAR configuration tools.
- Experience with Vector, Elektrobit, ETAS, or other third-party AUTOSAR BSW stacks.
- Familiarity with Polyspace, QAC, Tessy, Cantata, or equivalent static-analysis and unit-test tools.
- Knowledge of RISC-V architecture or experience porting MCAL across MCU architectures.
- Exposure to ASPICE, safety audits, tool qualification, customer delivery, or OEM/Tier-1 integration.
- Experience with automotive communication protocols: CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI.
