Job Title

Staff Engineer, RF Design

Role Summary

Design and develop millimeter-wave beamforming integrated circuits and RF/microwave sub-blocks (time delay units, phase shifters, amplifiers, digital step attenuators, passive components) for communications, test & measurement, industrial, and aerospace/defense applications. Work within a multidisciplinary IC development team including layout, verification, test, and manufacturing to deliver high-performance beamformer ICs.

Analog Devices is a global semiconductor company focused on analog, digital, and mixed-signal solutions.

Experience Level

Level: Senior (Staff). The posting indicates approximately 7 years of relevant millimeter-wave IC design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, analyzing, and delivering millimeter-wave ICs and sub-blocks, collaborating across functions, and mentoring junior engineers.

  • Architect and design beamforming ICs and RF/mmWave sub-blocks; perform trade-off studies and finalize IC architecture.
  • Design active and passive building blocks (time delay units, phase shifters, amplifiers, digital step attenuators, etc.).
  • Extract layout parasitics and optimize circuits and layouts to meet performance targets.
  • Perform electromagnetic modeling of on-chip passive components and package transitions; evaluate PCB interactions when needed.
  • Collaborate with layout, verification, test, product, qualification, assembly, and manufacturing teams during development.
  • Present technical results in design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience required to perform the role.

  • Proven experience in millimeter-wave IC design and beamformer IC development (design, simulation, and integration).
  • Proficiency with IC CAD and RF simulation tools such as Cadence/Spectre RF, Keysight ADS, Momentum, and HFSS.
  • Experience designing and optimizing active and passive RF/mmWave circuits with parasitic-aware layout practices.
  • Ability to perform EM and package-transition modeling and to integrate IC and board-level considerations.
  • Strong analytical and circuit modeling skills and the ability to perform trade-off studies.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Education Requirements

Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering (Millimeter-wave/RF focus) as stated in the posting.
